坑木は、主に松の木を使っていました。
貯木場は坑口の近くにあった方が便利がいいのですが、場所を取るため少し離れているところもあります。
仕繰方は、必要な坑木の数を倉庫係員に伝えてから台車に積み、
坑内の曲片と呼ばれる水平坑道まで降ろしてもらいます。
中規模以上の炭坑では、坑木をたくさん買いだめしていましたが、
小さな炭坑では坑木切れがよくあったそうです。
