This is a painting depicting construction work at Nittetsu Inatsuki Pit around 1930.
Two workers are building a pillar to support the drive ceiling by piling up timbers in a square shape.
The pillar illustrated in this painting was called "Karakozumi".
It had to be removed before the company collapsed the ceiling after coal mining was finished.
Although easily constructed, it was very difficult to take down the Karakozumi after being compressed by the pressure of the ceiling.
