This painting of miners going down into the pit dates from around 1900.
On the left is the hewer, called "Sakiyama". He is carrying some pick axes and tobacco.
In his right hand, he is holding an open-flame lamp, called "Kantera".
On the right side of the painting is the helper, called "Atoyama".
She is holding their lunch in her left hand and another Kantera in her right hand.
She is also carrying a tea bottle and a rope, called "Karui", which was used to pull a sled to load coal, known as "Sura".
