明治の後期になると、中規模以上の炭坑には、青年団が組織されるところもありました。

夜回りなどの奉仕作業を行う組織で、青年団ができると、炭坑の規律がなんとなくよくなったそうです。

しかし、メンバーそれぞれの業務が異なることなどから、

採炭休業日でもなかなか全員が集合することはできず、青年団を長続きさせることは難しかったようです。

 

 

 

 

In the late Meiji era around 1900, some coal mines larger than small-scale ones organized the youth association called Seinen-dan or Seinen-gumi.

It is said that the young boys in the pit seemed a little more disciplined after the association was organized. However, these associations did not last long.

It was seemingly difficult to sustain such an association because each member had a different job and it was hard for all members in the pit to assemble even on holidays.
