珍しいのは、ハネツルベという井戸から水を汲み上げる仕組みです。
支柱に支点を設け、シーソーのようにして井戸から水を汲み上げます。
水汲み桶側の反対側にはオモリがつけられていて、軽く汲み上げられるように工夫してあります。
筑豊の炭坑はどこも水事情が悪く、汲み終えた水を持ち帰るのにも遠い道のりだったようです。

It is the device called Hanetsurube, or the well sweep to scoop up water from the well that is unusual.
The pillar had a fulcrum for the pole, which seesawed and scoped up water from the well.
The pole had a balance on the opposite side to the side where a rope to hang a pail was tied so that the pail could be raised easily.
Every pit in Chikuho suffered from shortages of water and miners supposedly had to carry water they scooped up long way from wells to their house.
