明治中ごろの女の子の遊びを描いた作品です。お手玉遊びです。

布袋の中には砂やモミジの実や、アズキなどが入っています。
右側の二人の女の子の遊びは、右手で玉を上に投げ、

その間に右側の玉をすばやく左手の下をくぐらせるものです。
左側に描かれている子守りの女の子は、両手を使って二つのお手玉を交互に入れ替える遊びです。

どの遊びにも歌はつきものでした。数多くの歌があったようです。

 

 

Playing girls around 1890 are depicted in this work. They are playing beanbags.

Sand, fruits of birch, or small beans was/were put into small cloth bags.
Each of the two girls on the right is making each of the beanbags on her right pass under her left hand after tossing a beanbag with her right hand.
The baby-sitting girl on the left is interchanging two beanbags in her both hands.

Every play or game was accompanied by a song. There seems to have been many children’s songs.
