明治時代の坑内事務所の様子が描かれています。ササベヤと呼ばれた現場監督たちの控室です。

真っ暗な坑内ですからカンテラがいくつも焚かれています。
作兵衛翁は、明治39年、14歳で麻生太吉が経営する山内(さんない)炭坑に入坑しています。

当時の山内炭坑を思い出して描かれたものと思われます。
左に描かれている炭鉱労働者は、天井が落ちそうな場所があると報告しています。
上部には、大正7年1月に起きたササベヤでの爆発事故についても記されています。

 

 

The inside of the underground station in the Meiji era from 1868 to 1912 is drawn in this painting.

It was a station for field overseers and called Sasabeya.

It was in the dark underground and several oil lumps called Cantera were used.
Sakubei began to work at the San-nai Pit run by Takichi Aso in 1906 when he was 14 years of age.

This painting was supposedly drawn remembering the pit at that time.
The miner on the left is reporting some roof to be falling.
At the top right, Sakubei wrote about an explosion which broke out in the underground station of the pit in January. 1918.
