While situations differed from mine to mine, finding a constant water supply was a major concern for miners.
Some springs were located far from their housing, or sometimes the water was not even suitable for consumption because of its high iron content.
Depending on the season, wells were even known to dry up.
The buckets illustrated in this painting were called Tago.
They used these wooden Tago after first soaking them because water would leak from them when they were dry.
