明治中頃のヤマの子どもたちは冬の時期、竹馬でよく遊んでいました。
右側の子どものように片足で、片方の竹馬を担げるくらいになると名人級。
当時の子どもたちは、冬でもネルのシャツに袷(あわせ)と呼ばれる裏地が付いた着物だけで過ごしていました。
