正月になると、春駒（はるこま）芸の芸人が訪れていました。

鈴と鳴板を持ち「めでたい、めでたい」と歌いながら各家庭を回ります。
腰を振ると、馬の頭と尻尾が揺れます。各家庭からたくさんのお餅をもらいます。
この馬は蹴らないので、絵のように子どもも近くでおともができました。

During this time off, Harukoma, a dancing fake horse performer would visit all of the houses in the dwelling. 
He brought good luck by singing, ‘Medetai! Medtai!’ and ringing bells and flapping sound boards with his hands.
The entertainer would wiggle his hips so the fake horse’s head and rump would bob up and down comically.
Working close to exhaustion, the entertainer received rice cakes in return for his labors. 
Seeing as this horse never bucked, children tagged closely behind him.
